North America International Auto Show (ie Detroit Auto Show)

Today, Anthony convinced me to accompany him to Detroit - it really didn't take much convincing at all.

We were both pumped to see the latest in hybrid technologies and look at all the shiny cars. I sat in every available hybrid car on the show floor - in the driver seat, of course. Anthony took lots of pictures and he also took notes for his science blog.

I must say that I was disappointed in the American cars and very impressed with the foreign cars - particularly Toyota and Honda. Of course they were the first automakers to have hybrid cars in America and it stands to reason that they found these cars successful. My first new car will be a Toyota Prius, likely. However, I must admit that Honda wins the blue ribbon from me this year. They redesigned the civic (both traditional and hybrid versions) and the dashboard is something to admire. I also really enjoyed sitting in the Honda Insight (the very first hybrid car in the US). It's low to the ground and considerably small - only a 2-seater - but I could just imagine myself zipping around town and being able to maneuver the car easily.

I aspire to be a serious driver one day. I consider myself very good right now and I love to drive. I felt a certain connection with the serious cars today. I'm not talking about the sports cars or the muscle cars necessarily, but the cars that are made for someone who takes driving seriously. Like the Audi A8. Audi makes a serious car, they make me drool (just like Mac products make me drool). That's the one thing I can see myself really getting into - owning a great driving car. Of course, I would want a great place to drive it, which may or may not be the case. And I suppose I should save up my money for a long while before I can afford a serious car like that! But, oh man would that be sweet!

Need some open-knuckled gloves

Then, you'd be a serious driver.

Here's the link for the photos I took over at Flickr.
